“Photography lets me capture what’s already there. Drawing lets me express what I imagine. Surprisingly, they speak the same language.”

I’m a communications engineer — I work on 5G and 6G algorithms. I love to think, but not the grind of heavy math. What I love is taking a problem apart with the right people, putting every possibility on the table and talking it through.

My paintings are inspired by Van Gogh and Leonid Afremov — both of them painters of light. Sea sunsets, bridges, buildings: I let colour carry the emotion.

After a dive, I’ll often just sit and watch the sun fall into the sea. The photos I come back with answer the paintings I love — and the ones I paint myself. Travel runs on the same instinct: chasing light, chasing colour — sunsets, the ocean, every kind of landscape. I love to paint them, to look at them, to photograph them.

What’s different is people. I rarely paint them, but I love to photograph them. Street photography isn’t like landscape — every frame is a single moment, something I was there for. That connection with another person is what makes the picture mean something.

People ask what kind of photographer I am. I don’t have an answer yet — still finding out, probably. A friend once said my photos look like Turner paintings: light taking the place of form. There’s a European feeling in there too — the Romanticism, the touch of unreality you find in Austria, Czechia, Germany, Switzerland — and a Japanese clarity, a sense of air. Maybe. Honestly, I don’t really know. But as long as these photos are genuinely mine, they’re enough to stand for me — and that’s enough.
